Notice to Contractors/Individuals for Hire: Changes to Dumping at City Garage

High-Res Full-Color Tall 1

The City of Pontiac is discontinuing the practice of burning our yard waste pile. Burning is largely weather dependent with limited windows of opportunity to burn. Additionally, it is becoming too time consuming to put out fires and deal with the ash. Complaints from our neighbors also had a factor in this decision. As a result, the City is going to be tub grinding the brush pile.

As you know, the City has provided free of charge, a dump site for our local landscapers and contractors. It is a practice that few communities allow. With the added cost to our budget, we will no longer be able to provide this service at no cost. As a result, we have established a fee schedule that will take effect on May 1, 2023. The following fees and guidelines apply to all contractors and individuals for hire that utilize the City Garage for dumping of brush and landscape material.

• Pickup trucks/One-ton dumps/trailers: $40 per load

• Loads of logs (>10” diameter): $80 per load

• Chips (generated from tree chipper) $30 per load

• Loose grass: Free as long as dumped in grass bin.

• Fall Leaves: Free as long as dumped in leaf pile.

• Loads generated while working under contract for the City will not be charged.

Other Guidelines:

• Companies must be registered with the City of Pontiac to use the facility.

• Waste must be generated within the corporate limits of Pontiac.

• Only brush, logs, and paper landscape bags will be accepted. Plastic bags will no longer be accepted after May 15.

• Large logs must be separated from brush.

• The City will not pick up piles placed at the curb/street side by landscapers/contractors.

Dumping Guidelines:

• The facility will be open for contractor dumping on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings between the hours of 7-9 AM.

• No other dumping will be allowed without prior arrangements with the Street Superintendent.

• All drivers will need to stop at the office prior to dumping.

• Payment may be made at the time of dumping, or a monthly invoice can be sent out. Regardless the driver must stop for a receipt prior to dumping.
