The City of Pontiac is no longer burning brush and landscape waste at the City Garage at 102 Pearl St.
Beginning in April, the City will be grinding all landscape waste. As a result, there are changes being made to dumping procedures at the dump site as well as to the City’s brush collection policy.
At the dump site:
• Residents may continue to dump between the hours of 7am-Noon, 1-4pm- Mon. - Fri. (gates close at 4)
• No weekend dumping.
• Plastic bags are no longer allowed.
• Only landscape waste can be dumped. Lumber, plastic bags, landscape timbers, deck wood, etc. are no longer accepted.
• Loose grass must be dumped in the grass bin.
Curbside collection:
• Collection day stays the same. The day after garbage collection in most cases.
• Brush should be placed at the curb line, not in the street. Material placed in the street will cause street flooding.
• Containers: Loose material should be placed in a container. Cans, paper bags, and cardboard boxes are acceptable containers. Max weight is 35 pounds. Effective May 15, 2023, plastic bags will no longer be collected. Republic garbage totes are not accepted containers.
• Grass bags: Paper grass bags should have an orange grass sticker affixed to them for collection. The stickers are available for purchase at City Hall at a cost of $1 each.
• Sod is not collected curbside but is accepted at our sump site.
• Limbs should be no longer than six feet in length.
• Large piles are collected once per week using an end loader.
• Landscape waste generated by a contractor or company for hire must be hauled away by the contractor.
• Tree cutters must remove any material they cut.
