[ARCHIVED] Officer Meints Receives Award

Officer Kevin Meints was awarded the Pontiac Police Achievement Award (his second) by Chief Jim Woolford on 03/31/2022.  The award is for keen observation skills and proactive prevention measures upon seeing an out-of-state sex offender’s vehicle at a local hotel. This particular offender had been arrested in Pontiac for unlawful interactions with an underage female months earlier.  Officer Meints made contact with hotel employees and requested they keep an eye out for the offender and notify the police in the event he should return, specifically in the company of an underage guest.  He then notified the following shift of this interaction.  Approximately one and a half hours later, the employees observed the offender and a guest enter the hotel; the guest was concealed by a blanket.  The police were notified and were able to make an arrest before the underage female found in the offender’s room was re-victimized.

Officer Meints’ actions undoubtedly prevented a predatory crime against a juvenile and is a great credit to his family, this agency and City of Pontiac.
