[ARCHIVED] Memorial Mural Stops in Pontiac

You may have noticed a new mural on display near the Mill Street Bridge in Pontiac. Painted by former Pontiac artist, Brenda Manor, the mural pays tribute to one of the Walldogs who passed away in 2015. FranCisco Vargas, a resident of Fresno, California, was part of the Walldog visit to Pontiac in 2009. Vargas was responsible for the huge Vermillion River mural that stands near the corner of Water and Mill Streets in Pontiac.

The memorial mural is a depiction of the Vargas and is painted in the style of a postage stamp, the motif Vargas used on the Vermillion River mural which stands across the street from the new mural. According to Brenda Manor, “My design was in honor of his first stamp mural painted in Pontiac and the largest stamp mural he painted in Fresno, CA in 2014. I wanted to capture not only his spirit, but the fact that he is, and always will be, a ‘Forever Walldog’ in our hearts.”

The mural will be on temporary display here in Pontiac until winter weather begins to appear. Then, the mural will be taken to its permanent site in Delavan, Wisconsin.
