Members of The Society of Gilders will soon converge on Pontiac to open The Museum of the Gilding Arts, a museum dedicated to the art of gilding and the manufacturing of gold leaf. The Society is seeking local volunteers to assist with the creation of the museum.
Gilding is an art form that dates back to ancient times and is the application of gold or another precious metal leaf to objects for ornamentation. The Society of Gilders is an international society of artists dedicated to the preservation of this art.
Volunteers will be assigned tasks based on interest and ability and will be assisting with the set up and initial curating and record keeping of the museum. Members of the Society of Gilders start to arrive in Pontiac on April 15th and will be seeking assistance through May 1st. This is a unique opportunity to work side by side with gilding artists and to be a part of the creation of a museum.
