[ARCHIVED] Gilder's Open New Exhibit at Walldog Museum

At a grand opening ceremony, Pontiac Mayor Bob Russell, helped to usher in a completely new level of art for the city of Pontiac. The latest addition to the International Walldog Mural and Sign Art Museum is a display of artifacts associated with the ancient craft of gilding - better known as the use of gold leaf for art, decoration, and architecture. The Society of Gilders has chosen Pontiac as the new home of their collection of historic items related to the craft of gilding. Among the displays seen at the new exhibit are items from the Swift Collection. The Swift Company was an American business which produced gold leaf for many years. When the company closed, their work stations and other artifacts were preserved by the society.

This new exhibit will stand as a temporary exhibit while the city and the society work to locate and prepare a new space for their full collection.
