[ARCHIVED] City Mourns Loss of First Lady of Tourism

The City of Pontiac and the Office of Tourism regretfully acknowledge the passing of one of our favorite people and a true original. Elizabeth (Betty) Estes was Pontiac’s first tourism director and always one of the city’s greatest supporters. Betty left us on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.

Betty had a long history of involvement with the City. She served as City Treasurer in 1991 and was named tourism director in 1999. She served the tourism office until she retired in 2005. However, Betty was still actively promoting Pontiac and its many attractions long after she had officially retired from the position.

Betty’s wonderful sense of humor, her dedication to her work, her charming smile, and her warmth and generosity will be missed by all of the people who knew her. The City of Pontiac and everyone who lives or visits here owes Betty a debt of gratitude. We extend our profound sympathies to her family and friends. We will miss her greatly.
